How about a Summer 2013 vacation at Cornell?

Enticing weeklong programs offered July 7 to August 3

Plan your Cornell vacation now at www.cau.cornell.edu

We invite you, your family, and friends to spend a rejuvenating week (or two!) on Cornell’s beautiful campus this summer, surrounded by friendly companions while learning something new with one of the university’s distinguished faculty members.

This summer’s engaging CAU programs include:

  • seminars on topics ranging from art, astronomy, finance, history, and math to the secret lives of spiders;
  • workshops in subjects such as birdwatching, cooking, sculpture, garden design, meditation, and wine tasting; and
  • active sessions on biking, rowing, sailing, golf, tennis, outdoor skills, and much more.

After class, participants gather for drinks and conversation in the adult lounge and enjoy dinner and evening entertainment, including free lectures, concerts, and other events on campus and in Ithaca.

For those vacationing with children or grandchildren, CAU offers more than a dozen youth programs in art, writing, horse care and riding, rockets and robots, cooking, veterinary science, sailing, and other entertaining subjects. We offer both commuter and residential options for youth, and teens 13-16 are welcome to spend the week at CAU unaccompanied by parents or guardians.

Past participant Arthur Frommer, founder of Frommer’s travel guides, described his time at CAU as “one of the most exciting intellectual adventures.” He writes, “Among competing vacations, this was one of the great values.”

Cornell Summer College

Dear Cornellian,

Do you know high school students who might benefit from college-level summer study at Cornell? If so, I hope you will tell them about Cornell University Summer College Programs for High School Students (www.summercollege.cornell.edu).

Cornell’s Summer College is one of the nation’s longest running and most highly regarded precollege academic programs. It brings nearly 1,000 academically talented high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors from around the world to Cornell each summer for three- and six-week programs.

Summer College students have the unparalleled opportunity to

experience
what it’s like to live and learn at a great Ivy League university,
take university courses,
work closely with Cornell’s world-renowned faculty,
earn three to six college credits,
explore majors and career options,
get a jump on successful college applications,
make friends from around the world, and much, much more.
In addition to the gains realized by students, Summer College contributes significantly to Cornell’s recruitment efforts by introducing a geographically, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse group of talented students to Cornell. Many former Summer Collegians apply to Cornell, and each year a significant number of these students are members of the entering class.

Please share this information with individuals or organizations you think could benefit from our award-winning program. Students can connect with other Summer College fans through Facebook and can reach us directly at summer_college@cornell.edu or 607.255.6203.

On a personal note, as the new director of Summer College (I have the privilege of taking on this position following Abby Eller’s January 2013 retirement), I look forward to working with you in the years ahead and encourage you to contact me if you have any suggestions or questions about our program.

Best regards,

Jim Schechter, Ph.D., Director, and the Summer College staff
